Candy Helps The Troops

November 15th, 2008

Candy makes you feel better.  It can even make the troops in Iraq feel better.  I don’t want to talk politics, etc, but no matter how I feel about the war, I support the troops.  To me, they’re kinda stuck in the middle.

Anyway, a church in Texas (Abilene, I think) started a candy drive when one of the troops asked for some candy for his office be sent over.  His wife put the request in the church newsletter and before you know it, some 2,100 pounds of candy found itself being shipped to Iraq.  It was a little difficult and expensive to get the candy over there, but with the help of the Air Force, it finally made it.  Good job.

Halloween Spending Continues to Increase

October 22nd, 2008

Halloween is next week and according to a report by The Nielsen Company, we aren’t slowing down when it comes to buying Halloween type stuff (like candy and costumes) despite the higher prices.  Personally, I usually don’t buy Halloween candy.  It’s not that I don’t want to hand any out.  It’s just that when we first moved to Pittsburgh, I was working shift work and we would never be home on Halloween.  Then, when I was, I bought candy but nobody came.  So now, my GF and I just don’t participate.
