Los Cabos, Mexico, July 2003 - Faro del Cabo Resort

(Updated 08/18/04)

Laurie and I read in the Mexico Beach Resorts for Dummies book (yes, it's a real book...no, we didn't buy it) that you have to be careful when you go through customs in Mexico and make it out into the airport. Why?? Because you will be swamped with people trying to sell you things. Mostly timeshares. And the book was right. We were approached by one guy in the airport asking if we needed a ride to our resort. We said yes and then he started trying to sell us a timeshare. Nice guy and spoke English well. He took our money and gave it to an assistant who got our ride tickets. He tried to get Laurie and I to sign up for a free breakfast (with a brief seminar on the timeshare)...we declined. When we walked out of the airport to get into our 'taxi' (really, a minivan type vehicle), that's when we were swamped with people. Yelling at us, waving brochures, it was overwhelming. They even have a yellow box painted on the sidewalk where the vendors weren't allowed in so you could actually get out of the airport before being assaulted with offers. We found our van and waited inside for the ride to the resort.

The ride was interesting. Sharing our ride with us was a single guy who just broke up with his fiance. Or did she break up with him? I forget, but they were planning on going to Mexico for their honeymoon. He decided he was going to go anyway and have a good time. Seemed like a nice guy. There were also two older couples. We were all going to different resorts. It was a little depressing driving to the resort as the roads going there were lined with sand and the houses and buildings didn't look very nice. You kinda feel guilty going to a huge, nice resort when you know people are living like this just a few miles away.

We were the first to be dropped off. We wished our now-single guy good luck and we checked in. These photos are from around the resort. By the way, the Faro del Cabo was sold right before we took our trip and the new name was Crown Plaza Faro del Cabo. Now, the name is Crown Plaza Los Cabos Beach Resort.
