All that water coming over the Falls creates a lot of rapids farther down the river. Laurie and I took in the Great Gorge Adventure, which is on the Canadian side. You take an elevator down to the rapids and walk along a boardwalk right along them. Along the way are platforms so you can get a little closer and take pictures, which is what we did! Also, outside the elevator, there are stories and pictures of people who used to ride down the rapids in barrels (including one who did it with his dog!) and people who used to walk a tightrope over them. Not all were successful.
Another neat thing to do is the Spanish Aero Car, a gondola type car that crosses over the rapids on cables from high above. A little scary if you're afraid of heights, but really cool. This also is on the Canadian side, pretty far down from the Falls. You can't walk there...too far. I suggest getting the "Ride All Day" bus pass.
