LAURIE'S SCRAPBOOK!

UPDATE ON LAURIE'S CAREER (2001): Much has happened in the airline industry since September 11th, 2001. USAirways was on shaky ground before September 11th, and since the attacks, the company has had to endure the total shutdown of the airline industry for a few days after the attack, the shutting down of Reagan Airport for an extended amount of time (USAirways makes a large percentage of their money from moving US mail, a bulk of which was picked up from Reagan airport, plus it is a major hub for USAirways), and the overall decline of airline passengers industry-wide. The company was forced to layoff thousands of employees company wide. Laurie was one of them, her last day being scheduled for December 2nd. But USAirways offered voluntary layoffs to employees, and 2,000 employees took it. Now, there is a chance Laurie might not be laid off because of this. We are waiting to receive a letter from USAirways.

UPDATE ON 11/13/01: Laurie received her letter today from USAirways...she has been retained!! Laurie was pretty sure she would be, after looking at information provided by the airline. But we weren't sure until the letter arrived. No word on what will happen when the people who took the voluntary layoff will start to come back, but we'll worry about that when it happens. She's only gone out once since Sept 11th, and they aren't getting anywhere near her seniority number during their daily scheduling, but that might change in December when more layoffs become effective, plus with the holidays coming up. She's pretty sure she'll end up working over the long Thanksgiving weekend.

UPDATE ON 06/17/03: Laurie was laid off on May 1st, 2003. Although there is a chance she could be called back, there are a lot of people who were laid off before her who would be asked back first.
